Winter Ice 2007

This was a very warm season and the low icefalls never formed. We did however have excellent conditions in the high mountain valleys and Cogne in particularly was excellent having limited snow and lots of ice. The lack of snow meant that we were able to approach some of the higher more remote routes. The ice was generally warm a juicy, a delight to climb. Classics such as Repentence Super (6) were in fantastic condition and saw many ascents.

Arolla, Val de Bagnes and Zinal were also excellent.

It surprises me that even in really poor conditions there always seems something on offer in these alpine valleys. I have never missed a day on the ice during the 14 years I have been guiding in the Alps.
